PRIDE Radio Project!

PRIDERADIO PROJECT

The WCPT PRIDE! RADIO PROJECT is a multi-faceted initiative. First and foremost it is an entertaining and relevant information forum for the LGBT community. Topics include current events, civil rights, legal matters and lifestyle issues. We also identify organizations that support the community, and spotlight LGBT friendly businesses. Our PRIDE! RADIO PROJECT is about outreach, building bridges, and closing the gap of misunderstanding. It’s informative, entertaining and enjoyable radio!

Chicago has a vibrant and thriving LGBT community. The folks who identify themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, or Trans-gender may see the world a bit differently from Straight people. Or they may not. Perspective is unique to the individual. Straight people sometimes view the LGBT community through a lens that allows observation only from the outside, looking in, which may not be realistic. Information, understanding and tolerance are the watchwords that inspire all of the PRIDE! RADIO PROJECT programming elements. And we have lots of fun along the way!

Please join us as we celebrate diversity and inspire understanding. In the end, we are all human beings trying to make the world better…so we can all be proud!

SAGEWorks and Senior Community
Service Employment Program

Center on Halsted Senior Services Department graduated 6 seniors last week through the SAGEWorks Vocational Program. The program is designed to help LGBTQ individuals and allies ages 40+ improve their vocational skills. The 7-week intensive includes computer classes, resume and interviewing workshops, and potential job leads.

“During this session, we were fortunate to be joined by corporate volunteers and incorporate staff collaborations,” said Jonathan Tague, Senior Services Case Manager and coordinator of the program. “Corporate Supporters and Center on Halsted’s internal HR department worked with participants on career readiness skills.”

The graduation featured presentations by each participant in the form of a PowerPoint. Upon graduation, seniors continue to receive free 1-on-1 job counseling and 3 months of complimentary access to Cyber Center courses.

Center on Halsted is able to directly employ Seniors through its Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). SCSEP, a federally funded program supported through the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services, hires seniors as part-time trainees to support Center on Halsted’s programs and services.

“Center on Halsted is proud to employ Seniors from our community” said Modesto Tico Valle, CEO of Center on Halsted. “Research consistently shows that LGBTQ elders are living at greater rates in poverty and rely more heavily on social services. Providing these services to our trailblazers is integral to the mission of Center on Halsted.”
